Stephanie Beacham To Join 'Coronation Street'
Stephanie Beacham is set to join the cast of ITV soap 'Coronation Street', as a potential love interest for the Street's Ken Barlow (William Roache), it has been revealed.
The 61-year-old is due to appear in the show in January and will be in the show for around three to four months. According to the show's website, Beacham will play Martha, a "slightly eccentric theatre actress" who lives on a canal barge.
The pair will meet when Ken is walking by the canal and will develop a friendship, based on their "same love of literature and theatre".
Beacham is best known for her roles in Eighties US soap opera 'The Colbys' and ITV's prison drama 'Bad Girls'.

Chat show veteran Parkinson moves to ITV
ITV has signed up BBC chat show veteran Michael Parkinson on a two-year deal, it has emerged today. Mr Parkinson, who has hosted his eponymously-titled programme for 18 years, said that he decided to move to commercial broadcaster ITV after his Saturday night primetime slot was threatened by the return of Match of the Day.

William Roache Set To Return To Coronation Street
Ken Barlow actor William Roache is to begin filming for Coronation Street, some five months after being cleared of rape and indecent assault charges. Roache has not appeared in the ITV soap opera since May of last year, after news of the charges was made public.

Director Ken Russell Dies At 84
The enigmatic and Oscar-nominated British film-maker Ken Russell has died at the age of 84 after suffering a number of strokes. The controversial director became known for films such as Women In Love, which featured a famous scene depicting Oliver Reed and Alan Bates wrestling naked, and The Who's infamous rock opera, Tommy.

Plymouth Artist Dies 'Peacefully'
Plymouth artist, Beryl Cook has died at the age of 81. Mrs Cook died peacefully at her home with her husband and family at her side. The artist - who was born in Surrey - lived and worked for a while in London in fashion and briefly as a showgirl. She was never trained and did not take up painting until she was in her 40s.
