Policewoman In Court Over 'Escort' Charges
A Northumbria police officer has appeared in court today following an investigation into prostitution.
Victoria Thorne, 28, of Washington, Tyne and Wear, appeared in the dock at Newcastle Magistrates' Court charged with misconduct in public office.
She appeared before magistrates along with four people also charged with prostitution offences.
PC Thorne is currently suspended from the Northumbria force.
Neil Lock, 27, and his wife Natalie, 28, both of Abbotsfield Road, Galashiels, in the Scottish Borders, 59-year-old Nigel Lock, of Crescent Road, Manchester, and Oshar Marks, 56, of Ravenscourt Place, Gateshead, are charged with conspiracy to manage brothels for prostitution and conspiracy to control prostitutes for gain.
Mr Lock is also charged with conspiracy to manage brothels for prostitution, conspiracy to control prostitutes for gain and attempting to procure misconduct in a public office.
No pleas were entered and all five defendants were granted conditional bail.
They were told their cases were committed to Newcastle Crown Court to appear on December 22.

Abu Hamza remanded in custody
The radical Muslim cleric Abu Hamza al-Masri has been remanded in custody at Bow Street Magistrates Court today. Abu Hamza, who faces a total of nine charges, appeared by videolink from Belmarsh prison. He was remanded in prison until July 23. The 46-year-old was arrested on May 27 on an extradition warrant served by the US government.

Qatada Loses Appeal Against Deportation
Judges at the European court of human rights have rejected an appeal by Abu Qatada against his extradition. Home Secretary Theresa May is now to make a fresh attempt to deport the cleric to Jordon. May said: "I am pleased by the European court's decision. The Qatada case will now go through the British courts.

Sally Anne murder trial set
A date has been set for the trial of the man accused of murdering teenage model Sally Anne Bowman. Mark Dixie, 36, of no fixed address, appeared at the Old Bailey via video-link on Thursday. He was remanded in custody until December 15 for his next court appearance and the trial date was set for March 12.

French Court Postpones Extradition Decision
Magistrates in France have today postponed a decision on the extradition of Robert Williams, to the UK, after he was found with a teenage girl from Lincolnshire. Fifteen-year-old Laura Stainforth, was discovered in France last week with Mr Williams after going missing from her home.
