Teen Dies After Car Crashes Into Tree

A teenage driver was killed when his car crashed into a tree on an unclassified road in East Lothian. Police named the dead teenager as Matthew De Busk, 17, from Gullane. His passenger - also 17 - was injured. Lothian and Borders Police said Mr De Busk's Volkswagen Polo left the Gullane to Aberlady road near to Aberlady Mains, at about 5.40pm on Friday. The road was closed for four hours while accident investigators examined the scene. A police spokesman said: "We would be keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this collision."

'Jade' Wins Living TV Best Viewing Figures, So Far

While the weekend's action in film and TV was firmly focused on Los Angeles and 'The Oscars' the plight of reality star Jade Goody - who is suffering from terminal cancer - gave a cable channel a major fillip. Living gained its largest ever audience to date with a total of 929,000 viewers and that's just for its programme in advance of broadcasting the stricken star's lavish wedding, which was recorded on Sunday, when Goody married her fiancé Jack Tweed. Friday's hour-long show, Jade, attracted an initial 709,000 (3.3%) at 9pm and then pulled in 220,000 on Living +1. OK! magazine bought the rights to the actual wedding ceremony for £700,000, but Living had already paid a reported £100,000 to show it as part of their continuing series, Jade. Already, Friday's programme was up a massive 366% on the channel's slot average for last year of 152,000 (0.8%).

Man Charged With Importing Cocaine

A Spanish man has been charged with importing 30kg of cocaine on a lorry which arrived from France. The drugs, which have a street value of £1.8m, were found in a load of biscuits at Portsmouth Continental Ferry Port on Thursday. A 42-year-old man was arrested by UK Border Agency (UKBA) officers and later charged. He appeared at Fareham Magistrates' Court on Saturday and was remanded in custody to appear again on 27 February. A second Spanish man also arrested over the incident has been released on bail.

Man Hospitalised After Factory Incident

A man was taken to hospital after his arm became trapped in a machine he was using at the Airbus factory in Broughton, Flintshire. Police, the fire service and an ambulance went to the plant at 5.30pm on Friday and the man was freed. He was taken to hospital with injuries to his arm, however they are not believed to be serious. North Wales Police said the incident has been referred to the Health and Safety Executive for investigation. The plant employs over 7,000 people. It makes aircraft wings.

CIH Welcomes Tory Empty Home Proposals

The Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) has welcomed the Conservative Party's focus on tackling empty homes across the UK. CIH officials have applauded the Opposition's emphasis on housing associations, local councils and national agencies working closely together. However, CIH cautioned against suspending design and quality standards. Residents of newly occupied empty properties should not be required to live in poorer conditions than other tenants in affordable housing, according to the Institute. CIH Chief Executive Sarah Webb said: "We know that every empty home represents someone spending another night in a hostel, in a doorway, in overcrowded conditions or in a B&B."

Diver Treated For 'The Bends'

A 43-year-old diver who was suffering from decompression sickness has been airlifted to a hyperbaric chamber from a quarry in Gwynedd. Holyhead Coastguard said he had been out of the water at Dorothea Quarry at Dyffryn Nantlle, Gwynedd, for 15 minutes when he experienced symptoms resembling decompressions sickness. The group the man was diving with recognised symptoms of "the bends" and alerted the Coastguard. A rescue helicopter from RAF Valley airlifted the man to the Wirral for treatment. The hyperbaric chamber there is used to help those suffering from "the bends".

British Man Dies In Dubai Police Custody
A British man has died in police custody in Dubai. Lee Bradley Brown, 39, from east London, died on Tuesday after he was taken to a Dubai police station where he was allegedly assaulted and put into a cell. It has been reported that Mr Brown, was arrested over a row at the luxury hotel Burj Al Arab hotel.

Man Arrested Over Kent Doctor's Murder
A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a doctor in Kent. Consultant paediatrician Dr Victoria Anyetei, 54, was found in her car in the driveway of her home in Dartford on August 14. She had been stabbed to death. Kent Police said that the man was arrested on suspicion of murder at an address in Dartford.

Wanted Man Arrested In London
The man wanted in connection with the murder of a 66-year-old man who intervened during a robbery, has been arrested. Ian John McLoughlin, 55, was arrested in London at around 01:00. He was wanted on suspicion of murder and robbery. Airports and ports had been put on alert as police hinted for McLoughlin.

Man Arrested For 2002 Murder Of Becky Godden
Police investigating the disappearance of Becky Godden on December 2002, have arrested a 51-year-old man on suspicion of murder. Ms Godden was aged 20 when she disappeared in Swindon on 27 December. Her remains were found in 2011 on farmland in Gloucestershire.

Man Arrested Over Sexual Assault In Somerset
Police investigating a sexual assault in Somerset, during which a mother and child were tied up and held at knifepoint, have arrested a 59-year-old man. Police arrested the man on suspicion of aggravated burglary and sexual assault, in connection with the incident in Sydenham, Bridgewater on 21 January.
