Man Arrested Over McKenna Killing
A 46-year-old man is being questioned by police in relation to an attack which left a man dead and his son seriously injured.
Graham McKenna, 45, and his 14-year-old son Michael were stabbed on Upton Road in Claughton, Wirral, Merseyside. Mr McKenna, who was taking his son to Goodison Park to watch Everton play football on January 10, collapsed in the street and later died in hospital.
A man from Birkenhead was arrested by Merseyside Police on Wednesday on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.
Detectives are no longer hunting Gary Finlay, who disappeared after the incident on 10 January.
Police said: "Merseyside Police has today arrested a 46-year-old man from Birkenhead on suspicion of murder in relation to the death of Graham McKenna and on suspicion of the attempted murder of 14-year-old Michael McKenna. He was arrested in Birkenhead.
"The 46-year-old man is currently being questioned by detectives."
Mr McKenna – a corporal in the Territorial Army - and his son were first attacked in Foxglove Road and again in Speedwell Road. Michael was then also attacked in Foxglove Road.
Both were discovered with stab wounds to the abdomen on Speedwell Road.
Earlier this month Mr McKenna's widow, Gillian, 40, made a tearful plea for information about his death.
She said: "He had so much to live for and we had so many plans that have been wiped out.
"Graham was my life. Graham was my soulmate. I never ever stopped loving him and he will always be with us."
