Man Dies Following Police Car Crash
One man has died and another is seriously injured following a two-car collision involving a police vehicle. Dyfed-Powys Police said the incident happened on the A48 near Crosshands, Carmarthenshire, at around 9pm on Tuesday. One man suffered fatal injuries. The second man and the officer driving the police car were taken to hospital. The force said the matter had been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
Teens Arrested Over Wirral Murder
Two teenagers have been questioned in connection with the murder of a man who died after he was attacked in Wirral. Alan Corney, 67, was head-butted by one of two youths he challenged about their bad behaviour on The Parade in Parkgate on 14 November last year. He was treated in hospital but was readmitted after collapsing at home and died on 6 February. Cheshire Police said two males, aged 17 and 18 and from Gresford near Wrexham, North Wales, were being questioned. Mr Corney, who was from Parkgate, had been walking with his wife, Norma, along the banks of the River Dee moments before he was attacked.
Missing Boy 'May Have Left Country'
Police investigating the disappearance of an 11-year-old boy from Kent believe he may have been trying to leave the country. Abdullah Raed, who speaks with a French accent, was last seen at his home in Allington, Maidstone, at 0100 GMT on Tuesday. Kent Police said he is believed to be in or travelling through London. Abdullah is 5ft tall (1.5m), of slim build with short black curly hair. He has two small scars on the left side of his head. He is believed to be wearing a red t-shirt with black and white vertical writing. A Kent Police spokesperson said: "Abdullah may be trying to leave the country so may be heading to railway stations, airports or sea ports."
Independent Chair appointed To Prison Self-Harm investigation
Barbara Stow, former Assistant Prisons Ombudsman has been commissioned to undertake an independent Article 2 European Convention of Human Rights compliant investigation into the case of SP. It will look at the how SP, a prolific self-harmer, was cared for and treated during her time in Prison Service custody. The evidence gathering stage of the investigation is due to be completed in August 2009. This will be followed by a public hearing which is anticipated to take place in Spring 2010. The National Offender Management Service will consider the investigation report to see what lessons can be learned from SP's case to help reduce similar incidents in the future.
New Chair Of The Health Protection Agency Appointed
The appointment of a new Chair for the board of the Health Protection Agency was announced today by Public Health Minister, Dawn Primarolo. Dr David L Heymann will replace Sir William Stewart who retires in April 2009. Dr Heymann is currently the Assistant Director General for Health Security and Environment for the World Health Organisation (WHO) in Geneva. He is also the Representative of the Director General for Polio Eradication. He previously worked with the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention for 24 years. Dawn Primarolo said: "I am delighted that Dr Heymann has accepted the appointment as Chair of the Health Protection Agency. This is a unique post and I am pleased to welcome someone with such an outstanding senior career in the international public health field.

Man Arrested Over Kent Doctor's Murder
A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a doctor in Kent. Consultant paediatrician Dr Victoria Anyetei, 54, was found in her car in the driveway of her home in Dartford on August 14. She had been stabbed to death. Kent Police said that the man was arrested on suspicion of murder at an address in Dartford.

British Man Dies In Dubai Police Custody
A British man has died in police custody in Dubai. Lee Bradley Brown, 39, from east London, died on Tuesday after he was taken to a Dubai police station where he was allegedly assaulted and put into a cell. It has been reported that Mr Brown, was arrested over a row at the luxury hotel Burj Al Arab hotel.

Man who shot himself following police chase named
The man who shot himself dead on the M1 motorway following a police chase has been named. Graham Jenkins, 44, from Hereford, is believed to have rowed with his girlfriend before leaving her house and driving off, in the early hours of Thursday morning.
