Cisse Bailed Over Alleged Assault

Premier League footballer Djibril Cisse has been held in connection with a brawl outside a lap-dancing club in Newcastle.

The Sunderland footballer, who was arrested on suspicion of common assault, has since been released on police bail by officers investigating the incident in Newcastle city centre.

It is believed the alleged incident took place outside the Diamonds club in Grey Street between Cisse and an unnamed woman.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "A 27-year-old man was arrested for common assault at around 3am on Monday in Grey Street, Newcastle. He has been bailed pending further inquiries."

The striker, who is on loan at Sunderland, from French club Marseille, used to play for Liverpool under manager Gerard Houllier.
