PM Faces Tory Wrath Over Smear Allegations
No 10 is under severe pressure today amid growing concerns over an alleged smear campaign against leading Conservative figures.
While Gordon Brown is back on home territory today, recalling the tragic deaths of the 16 men who died in the North Sea helicopter crash disaster in Aberdeen, back in Downing Street, the Prime Minister stands personally accused over the debacle.
The Conservative Leader, David Cameron, said he "was guilty of allowing a culture to develop inside Downing Street in which those around him felt comfortable plotting to smear opposition politicians".
Mr Cameron went on to dismiss Mr Brown's call for a tightening of the code of conduct for advisers to prevent a repeat of the events which led to the resignation of Damian McBride from his post as a senior aide at Number 10 last week.
The Tory leader - who was himself the subject of the one of the personal slurs - is said to be "furious" at the entire episode.
Speaking during a visit to a hospital in Stafford on Tuesday, he said: "What this whole episode demonstrates is the need for change.
"Not change in the special advisers' code but change in the culture at Number 10 Downing Street.
"These people have just been in power too long; they have forgotten who they are serving, what they are meant to be doing, how they are meant to behave and we need some change," he said.
"I do not know what Gordon Brown knew and when he knew it but what I do know is that he hired these people, he sets the culture, he is the leader and we need change in order to change the culture and stop this sort of nonsense.''

Spot fines for under-age drinkers

High Levels Of Air Pollution In England And Wales
Public Health England (PHE) scientists are issuing advice for parts of England and Wales. In the last few days, a combination of local emissions, light winds, pollution from the continent and dust blown over from the Sahara caused a spike in the UK Air Quality Index compiled by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).

Bank Of England Holds Interest Rate
The Bank of England has said it will maintain its interest rate at 0.5%. It also gave no indication as to when it might increase the rate. In August 2013, governor Mark Carney said the unemployment rate would need to fall to 7% before an increase in interest rates would be considered.
