Sir Clement Freud Dies Aged 84

Writer, broadcaster and former Liberal MP, Sir Clement Freud, has died at the age of 84.

The writer passed away at his home on London on Wednesday evening, his family announced.

Renowned for his lugubrious expression and mournful voice, he will be best known for his appearances on BBC Radio 4's 'Just a Minute' show. Comedian and writer Stephen Fry described him as "wonderful and charming". He was the grandson of famous psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud.

Sir Clement was an MP from 1973 to 1987, the year he received a knighthood.

His funeral is to be held next week.

Science Fiction Writer Dies Aged 90
Somerset-born science fiction writer Sir Arthur C Clarke has died in Sri Lanka aged 90. Clarke's aide said that he had died at 1:30am after a cardio-respiratory attack in his homeland from 1956. Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapakse paying tribute said the writer was a "great visionary".

Welfare Minister Criticised For Questioning 'Worth' Of Disabled People
Nick Clegg has criticised welfare minister Lord Freud for his comments on some disabled people not being "worth" the minimum wage. The deputy leader said that Lord Freud's comments had been "deeply distressing" and "offensive". Lord Freud made his comments during a Conservative Party event in response to Tunbridge Wells councillor David Scott.

Writer, Author and Arguer Christopher Hitchens Dies
Enigmatic British author and writer Christopher Hitchens has died as a result of his long battle with cancer. The Vanity Fair journalist, who was known for his uncooperative and immutable views, died from pneumonia after developing a complication of the oesophageal cancer he had long suffered.

Mystery Surrounds Writer's Death
A former Daily Telegraph columnist has died from apparent head injuries following a mysterious motorcycling incident. Travel writer Elisabeth (Minky) Turner, 83, was riding her 50cc White Piaggio Zip motorbike home from church on 7 March when she was believed to have crashed.

JK Rowling Donates £1m To Back Scotland In UK
The author of the Harry Potter books JK Rowling, who lives in Edinburgh, has made a £1m donation to help fund the Better Together campaign against Scottish independence and has revealed her views and explained her decision in a long post in her website.
