Man, 26, Charged With Attempted Murder
A 26-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after a man was discovered with stab wounds at a house in Lincoln. Andrew Dawidowski, 53, was discovered with serious injuries at the house in Saxon Street on 4 March. Craig Anthony Smith, 26, from Lincoln was charged by Lincoln Police on Wednesday. He was remanded in custody by magistrates and will appear before Lincoln Crown Court on 24 April.
Pair Rescued From Flat Fire
A man and woman have been rescued from a blaze by an off-duty firefighter. The alarm was raised just before 9.50pm and the fire had spread from the first to the second floor flat in Robert Street, Port Glasgow. Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Service said officers arrived to fight the blaze and search the building to ensure no-one else was inside. The rescued pair were treated for the effects of smoke.
Two Detained Over Armed Robbery
A 16-year-old youth from the Ely area of the city and a 23-year-old man from Canton have been detained after an armed robbery at a Cardiff store, say South Wales Police. Around £130 was taken from the till at Costcutters in North Road, Gabalfa, on 11 April. The shopkeeper was unhurt but said to have been left very shaken after the incident at 6.30pm.
Electronic Applications Mean Faster Criminal Record Checks
A new electronic application system bringing faster results to its largest customers was launched today by the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB). Customers who make more than 3,000 checks a year can now use e-Bulk to send multiple applications and receive the results electronically. Annually the CRB completes more than 3.5 million checks against criminal records and lists of those barred from working with the vulnerable, with 50% of applications coming from just 265 organisations.
Passengers Uninjured In 'Plane Failure'
Three people escaped unhurt when a plane suffered an "undercarriage failure" on landing at an airport. The Beech 76 Duchess twin-engine craft was coming in to land at Bournemouth Airport when the incident happened at about 6.50pm yesterday. A spokeswoman for the airport said all those onboard were unhurt. She added workers were in the process of recovering the plane from the runway but said no other flights had so far been affected. She said the runway was expected to be clear before the next scheduled flight was due to land at about 8.30pm.

Twenty-Five Injured In M4 Coach Crash
Around 25 people were injured when a coach crashed on the M4 near Newbury on Wednesday evening. The incident happened around 7pm, when the private hire coach came off the westbound carriageway, between junctions 14 and 15, and plunged around 30ft down an embankment.

Man Rescued From Burning Yacht
RNLI rescuers have saved a lone yachtsman from a burning boat off the North East coast. The RNLI reported that the 36ft vessel "burst into flames" at about 05:45 off Seaham, Co Durham, with boat crews in the area spotting thick plumes of smoke. They alerted the emergency services.

House Collapses After Fire In Greater Manchester
A house in Greater Manchester has partially collapsed following a fire. The incident has left two men needing hospital treatment and a third unaccounted for. It is understood that the fire broke out at around 5am at an end-of-terrace house in War Office Road, Rochdale.

Man Rescued From Hostel Fire
Firefighters have rescued a man trapped by a fire at a hostel in St Pancras. Emergency services were called to Birkenhead Street on Tuesday afternoon to reports of a fire on the first floor of the hostel. Fifteen people had escaped the building before firefighters arrived, however one person was unaccounted for.
