Former Court Clerk In Court Over Fraud
A former Edinburgh Sheriff Court Clerk had appeared on petition in his former place of work, charged with fraud. Graeme Wilson, 28, of Kirkcaldy, appeared in private before Sheriff James Farrell on Thursday charged with obtaining £90,017 by fraud from the Scottish Courts Service between 7 October 2007 and 6 march 2009. He was released on bail.
Chelsea Player Banned From Driving
Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi has been banned from driving for 15 months after admitting drinking and driving. The footballer, who also plays for Nigeria, was arrested on 24 January in his Range Rover on Fulham Road, west London, near the club's ground. The 21-year-old from Weybridge, Surrey, was found by police to be almost twice the drink-drive limit. District Judge Jeremy Coleman also ordered Mikel to pay £1,580, at the West London Magistrates' Court hearing.
7 Camicie Opens First UK Store At Buchanan Galleries
One of Italy's top clothing brands has unveiled its first UK store at Buchanan Galleries in Glasgow. 7Camicie has taken a 459 sq ft unit on the ground floor of the centre. Since the opening of its first store in Rome in 2001, 7Camicie has fast become one of the biggest-selling fashion brands in Europe operating in 12 different countries with over 140 stores worldwide, boasting over 500 different styles and colours of shirts in store. Culverwell & CBRE acted for Buchanan Galleries whilst Stephen McParlane at McParlane & Co acted for 7Camicie.
Fresh Investment In Green Construction Jobs Welcomed
Construction union UCATT have welcomed the announcement by the Department of Energy and Climate Change that an additional £1.4bn will be spent on developing the low carbon economy. It is estimated that the investment will help to create 20,000 new construction jobs in the coming months. The additional investment in green construction projects will help revitalise the industry. Alan Ritchie, General Secretary of UCATT, said: "This is evidence of clear well though out Government thinking. This investment will help to fight the long-term challenge of climate change. In the short term it will provide vital impetus to the construction industry, which has been hit very hard by the recession."
Boy Impaled Climbing Fence
An 11-year-old boy was impaled on a metal fence in Sunderland as he tried to climb over it. Emergency services were called to Emmerson Terrace in Columbia on Thursday afternoon. Firefighters from Tyne and Wear Fire Service supported the boy's weight while they used cutting equipment to remove a section of the fence. He was taken to hospital with an injury to his left leg. His condition was later described as stable.
