Man Charged Over Father Killing

A 45-year-old man has been charged with murdering his elderly father at the University Hospital of North Durham. Ralph Stevenson, 86, was admitted to the hospital on 21 May with symptoms relating to Parkinson's disease and pneumonia. He died on 11 June. His son - also called Ralph Stevenson - was charged after concerns were raised by hospital staff. He will appear before magistrates in Peterlee on Wednesday.

Man Remanded Over Sex Attack

A 47-year-old has been remanded in custody accused of indecently assaulting a boy in a town park. Clive Lewis, who lives in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, appeared before magistrates on three charges. Mr Lewis will appear before Cardiff Crown Court on 23 June. He is also accused of causing a child to watch a sexual act and inciting the boy to engage in sexual activity. It follows an alleged assault on an 11-year-old boy in Gladstone Park on Sunday afternoon.

Man Crushed By Vehicle

A man believed to be in his 60s has died after he was accidentally crushed by a vehicle at business premises in Aberdeen. Emergency services were called to Nortruck Services at Minto Drive in Altens shortly before 8.00am. However, a Scottish Ambulance Service spokeswoman told the BBC Scotland news website that their crew "unfortunately were not required". The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is investigating.

Climate Change Declaration Signed

The Third Sector Declaration on Climate Change has been signed by Environment Minister Huw Irranca-Davies and Climate Change Minister Joan Ruddock. The Declaration was developed as part of the Defra-funded ‘Every Action Counts’ programme launched in June 2007, and acknowledges the crucial role of the third sector in forming a better understanding of the link between social justice and action on climate change. The Declaration currently has 227 signatories, each of whom has made a public statement about their commitment to tackling climate change and creating a plan for change. The re-launch and additional signatories of the Declaration coincides with a review report of the Declaration to date.

Canal Body Robbery Link Probed

Police are working to establish any connection between the discovery of a man's body and three robberies overnight in Hertfordshire. The body was found in the Grand Union Canal, near Frogmore Lane, in Hemel Hempstead early in the morning. The man has not been identified but was aged in his late-20s or early-30s, wearing black trousers, a black shirt, dark grey fleece and black trainers. Officers urged any witnesses or anyone with information to contact them. The overnight robberies took place in Ebberns Road Hemel Hempstead, in London Road, Kings Langley, and in Hempstead Road, Kings Langley, near to Shendish Manor.

Government report warns of 'dangerous' climate changes
A report launched today concludes that the effects of 'dangerous' levels of climate change are likely to occur over coming decades. It offers little hope that CO2 emissions can be kept in check, and that given rapid global warming, meltwater from the Greenland ice sheet will cause sea levels to rise by seven metres.

High Levels Of Air Pollution In England And Wales
Public Health England (PHE) scientists are issuing advice for parts of England and Wales. In the last few days, a combination of local emissions, light winds, pollution from the continent and dust blown over from the Sahara caused a spike in the UK Air Quality Index compiled by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).
