Teenage Girl Dies In Gran Canaria
A sixth-form student from Pembrokeshire has died while on holiday in the Canary Islands with friends after finishing her A-level exams, the Foreign Office has confirmed. Jordan Carter, who was a pupil at Milford Haven School, died in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, on Tuesday. Her headteacher Islwyn Morgan said she was a "quiet, trustworthy, reliable and extremely well-liked" member of the school. A spokesperson for the Foreign Office said: "We can confirm a British national has died in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria on 30 June. Consular assistance is being provided."
Police Investigate Liverpool Shooting
Police in Liverpool are investigating whether the shooting of a 21-year-old man in was a targeted attack. The victim was found with superficial injuries to his upper body, believed to be caused by a shotgun, Merseyside Police said. A police spokesman said officers were called to Cottesbrook Road in Norris Green late on Wednesday. The man was treated in hospital and later discharged. Forensic officers are examining the scene.
Elderly Couple In Car Crash
An elderly couple have been treated in hospital following an M6 motorway crash. The incident, which happened between junctions 4 (Coleshill) and 4a (Castle Bromwich) on the border of the Westmidland and Warwickshire, has caused long delays. The couple were in a Renault Megane that overturned after it collided with a Mercedes and a heavy goods vehicle. The woman suffered head and arm injuries and was trapped in the car, while the man who suffered less serous injuries was able to get out of the car himself. A man in a Mercedes car was left shocked but uninjured.
Four Charged Over Drugs Haul
Four men have been charged with drug offences by police investigating the alleged importation of cannabis from Spain to West Yorkshire. The men were arrested after police officers recovered one tonne of cannabis resin with a street value of £5m from an industrial premises in Cleckheaton. They have been charged with conspiracy to supply a quantity of Class B drugs. The men, aged 62, 36, 46 and 47, were due to appear at Dewsbury Magistrates' Court later.
Students Gain Hands-On Experience On The Olympic Park
Engineering and construction students from universities across London have gained hands-on building experience on the Olympic Park. The students worked closely with contractors working on the Olympic Stadium and Aquatics Centre, who could potentially employ them in the future. More than 80 students from South Bank University, Imperial College London, the University of East London and Greenwich University worked with Olympic Park contractors to plan and build scaled-down versions of structures such as the Barcelona Tower, Kingsgate Bridge in Durham, the Millennium Gallery in Sheffield and Brewery Wharf footbridge in Leeds.

British Man Dies In Dubai Police Custody
A British man has died in police custody in Dubai. Lee Bradley Brown, 39, from east London, died on Tuesday after he was taken to a Dubai police station where he was allegedly assaulted and put into a cell. It has been reported that Mr Brown, was arrested over a row at the luxury hotel Burj Al Arab hotel.

Man Arrested Over Kent Doctor's Murder
A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a doctor in Kent. Consultant paediatrician Dr Victoria Anyetei, 54, was found in her car in the driveway of her home in Dartford on August 14. She had been stabbed to death. Kent Police said that the man was arrested on suspicion of murder at an address in Dartford.

Body found in search for missing aircraft
A body has been found along with the wreckage of a light aircraft belonging to a couple from Cowbridge. A search will continue today for a second person known to have been on board the aircraft which was last spotted on radar at around 13.30 BST on Sunday.

Plans passed for £47m link road through valley
Despite a concerted campaign by environmentalists, plans to build a controversial £47 million link road in southern England have been passed. Friends of the Earth said that the Bexhill to Hastings road through the scenic Combe Haven Valley in East Sussex would on the contrary add to congestion and increase pollution.
