Arrests Follow Stab Death
Six people have been arrested after a man was stabbed in south London, following a fight between a group of people. Police were called following reports of a fight in Kingston Road, New Malden, on Tuesday night. The victim was discovered in a rear garden suffering stab wounds. He was taken to hospital and later died. The six people remain in custody and police say they are keeping an open mind as to the motive. A post mortem examination will take place today.
Man Dies And Another Injured On Rail Line
A man has died and another has been injured when they were electrocuted on a railway line in south Essex – a day after Network Rail warned about the dangers of tracks. Emergency services were called to the track side about 800 yards (740m) from a bridge on Fort Road, in Tilbury, in the early hours. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, however, no further details have yet been given by British Transport Police. The East of England Ambulance Service said another person was taken to the Thurrock Hospital with burns. Network Rail head of community safety, Martin Gallagher, said the death came just one day after a station poster campaign started to highlight the dangers of jumping on to tracks.
Elderly Woman Dies In Flat Fire
An elderly woman has died and a man was left seriously injured following a fire at a flat in Dundee. Emergency services were called to the property in Laidon Terrace, Dundee, just before 7.00pm after a neighbour raised the alarm on seeing smoke. Firefighters rescued the man from an upper flat in the block of four but found that an elderly woman had already died. The man is being treated at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.
New Chairman Of SOCA Announced
Sir Ian Andrews has been appointed chairman of the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA), Home Secretary Alan Johnson announced today. Sir Ian was identified following an open competition. He takes over the post from Sir Stephen Lander, who retires this month. Alan Johnson said: "Sir Ian Andrews has had an impressive career in the Ministry of Defence and brings a wealth of experience to this important post. He was an excellent candidate throughout the appointment process and I have no doubt he will be very successful in leading SOCA." He added: "I would like to thank Sir Stephen Lander for the significant contribution he made to the creation of SOCA and in being its first chairman from its establishment in April 2006. Under his leadership, it has become a world class organisation leading the fight against serious organised crime."
Appeal After Gym Arson
Police are appealing for information into a fire which ripped through a gym in Altrincham causing damage costing thousands to repair. Between 5.15pm and 5.30pm on Friday 26 June 2009, Pele's Gym on Church Street was set alight. The owner of the gym, a 50-year-old man, managed to escape the blaze without being injured. It was first thought the fire started because of an electrical fault, but fire investigators found that an offender had piled up clothes and set the place alight. The building was badly damaged and will cost thousands of pounds to repair.
Money Stolen From Elland Town centre
Police are appealing for witnesses after a large amount of money was stolen from a man on Southgate, Elland town centre on Tuesday 7th July. The man was walking along the road carrying a black satchel with the shop’s takings in when it was removed from his shoulder by two males who then ran down the side of the Citizens Advice Bureau towards the nearby flats. Both suspects are described as white, aged in their 20s and were both wearing black jackets and dark coloured trousers. One was approximately 5ft10/11 tall and the other 5ft 11/6ft in height. One had a baseball cap on and both had their faces partly covered. Any witnesses are asked to contact Calderdale CID on 01422 337087.

Wanted Man Arrested In London
The man wanted in connection with the murder of a 66-year-old man who intervened during a robbery, has been arrested. Ian John McLoughlin, 55, was arrested in London at around 01:00. He was wanted on suspicion of murder and robbery. Airports and ports had been put on alert as police hinted for McLoughlin.

British Man Dies In Dubai Police Custody
A British man has died in police custody in Dubai. Lee Bradley Brown, 39, from east London, died on Tuesday after he was taken to a Dubai police station where he was allegedly assaulted and put into a cell. It has been reported that Mr Brown, was arrested over a row at the luxury hotel Burj Al Arab hotel.

Man Arrested Over Kent Doctor's Murder
A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a doctor in Kent. Consultant paediatrician Dr Victoria Anyetei, 54, was found in her car in the driveway of her home in Dartford on August 14. She had been stabbed to death. Kent Police said that the man was arrested on suspicion of murder at an address in Dartford.

Six Arrested Over Nottingham Street Brawl Death
Police investigating the death of a 19-year-old man in Nottingham have arrested six people. Joshua Bradley, of Bulwell, died following a suspected street fight in Thurland Street, on 08 February. Two men, aged 21 and 19, have been arrested on suspicion of murder.
