Rangers Fan Gtes 10 Year Ban And Jail

A Rangers football fan has been jailed for more than five months following clashes with rival fans. Graham Hill, 33, from Tullibody, Clackmannanshire, was involved in a disturbance between Rangers and Hibs fan following a match in Glasgow. He has also been banned from football matches for the next 10 years. The incident took place on 20 December 2008, at Queen Street Station. Kenny Scott, Head of Security and Operations at Rangers, said: "Rangers Football Club continues to work closely with both British Transport Police and Strathclyde Police to eliminate all forms of anti-social behaviour associated with football."

Suicide Rates Lowest On Record

The number of suicides in England are at an all-time low, Care Services Minister Phil Hope announced today as he published the latest annual report on suicide prevention. Care Services Minister Phil Hope said: "The fact that suicide rates continue to fall is encouraging. We will continue to work with the NHS, local authorities and other agencies to try to prevent suicides as far as possible. Investment in good mental health services, including early intervention when people have mental health problems is very important. Our new strategy for mental health, called New Horizons, which will be published shortly, will focus on promoting positive mental health and wellbeing." Professor Louis Appleby, Clinical Director for Mental Health at the Department for Health said: "It is excellent that the suicide rate is at a new low, but front-line agencies need to re-double their efforts if we are going to bring it down further at a time of recession."

Man Charged Over Jewellery Raid

A man has been charged in relation to a robbery at a jewellery shop on the Isle of Wight. Two masked men escaped with 15 watches from the Benzie yachting jewellery shop in High Street, Cowes, last Friday, after threatening a member of staff. Oliver Mazirel, of Ivydore Avenue, Worthing, West Sussex, was charged with robbery and possessing an imitation firearm and remanded in custody. He is due to appear before Isle of Wight magistrates on Friday. A woman, aged 23, also of Worthing, has been released on police bail.

Police Put Brakes On Road Crime

Traffic police from Greater Manchester have taken part in a day of action to clamp down on illegal drivers across Salford. One person was arrested as part of the operation for offences including: drink driving, burglary and assault. Eleven cars were seized at checkpoints across the city. Using Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) equipment, officers identified vehicles reported as stolen and those being driven by uninsured drivers. Vehicle examiners were on hand to check those suspected of being cloned. A sniffer dog was used to check vehicles for drugs. Hand-held fingerprinting units were also used to check the prints of those stopped during the day.

Welsh Suicide Action Plan Launched
A new action plan that aims to reduce suicide and self-harm in Wales has been launched today by the Welsh Assembly Government. Teachers, GPs, employment advisers and police are to be trained to spot signs of mental health problems as part of the plans to reduce the country's suicide rate.

Having Severe Acne May Increase Suicide Risk 


Individuals who suffer from severe acne are at an increased risk of attempting suicide, according to a paper published on bmj.com today. 

 The British Medical Journal study also finds that an additional risk may be present during and up to one year after treatment with isotretinoin, a commonly prescribed drug for severe acne.

Bid to reduce suicides in young men
The government has launched a new drive in an attempt to reduce suicide rates in young men. Health Minister Rosie Winterton published a report outlining the findings of three pilots which have been looking at ways to reduce suicide rates in young men, in order to mark Men's Mental Health Week.
