Teen Guilty Of Racial Abuse

A teenage boy who subjected a schoolgirl to racist abuse has been found guilty of racially aggravated harassment. The 15-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was convicted at Lincoln Magistrates' Court. He will be sentenced next month. The girl suffered months of racist abuse from the boy including being called racist names, the court heard. The jury was told the victim had considered committing suicide.

Another 15-year-old accused of the same offence was found not guilty.

BA To Cut 32 Engineering Staff

British Airways is looking to make 32 redundancies at an engineering plant, it has emerged. A 30-day consultation period has begun at Avionics Engineering in Pontyclun, Rhondda Cynon Taf. British Airways said the most difficult trading conditions the industry had ever known meant it was looking to identify coast savings. It had reduced capacity and grounded aircraft which had led to a reduced workload at the south Wales plant, said the company. A spokesman for British Airways added: "We remain committed to providing good quality, skilled jobs in Wales, and employ more than 1,000 people at our three Welsh facilities."

Arrests Over Pub Burglary

Two men have been arrested following a burglary at a Wolverhampton pub overnight. Officers were called to Claregate Pub on Codsall Road at around 12.30am this morning (23 July) after offenders broke into the bar area. They smashed gaming machines and took cash from inside. Officers conducting enquiries later located a vehicle in the Fordhouses area, which they suspected of having been involved in the offence. The vehicle had been reported as stolen during an aggravated burglary at an address on Kitchen Lane, Ashmore Park at around 11pm on July 20. A man was assaulted during the incident and suffered a hand injury. Two men, aged 28 and 23, were arrested on suspicion of burglary and aggravated burglary. They continue to help police with their enquiries this morning.

Stronger Protection For Consumers Borrowing Money

Consumers taking out new deals on credit and store cards and personal loans are set to benefit from enhanced protection. The Department for Business has today published proposals for draft regulations to take forward the implementation of the Consumer Credit Directive. These include new requirements to promote responsible borrowing and lending, as set out in the recent Consumer White Paper. Lenders will have to check consumers' creditworthiness before they borrow, and fully explain financial products. Consumers will also be allowed a 14-day period within which to withdraw from credit agreements.

Protestor guilty of inciting racial hatred
A man arrested during a protest outside the Danish Embassy has been found guilty of inciting racial hatred. The rally outside the Danish Embassy in London on February 3 followed the publication of a series of cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed in European newspapers. Mizanur Rahman, 23, was remanded in custody while sentencing is considered.

Racist Thugs Sentenced
Three men and a youth who rampaged along an Ilford road damaging cars and a mosque and shouting racial abuse have this week been jailed. The trio had previously been found guilty of violent disorder at Snaresbrook Crown Court.

Nick Griffin, the leader of the British National Party (BNP), has been charged with four racial hatred offences, police have confirmed.

Government claims victory in reducing burglaries
The Home Office claimed today that a £26 million initiative has cut burglary in crime hotspots by a fifth over the last three years. The evaluation of the Home Office's 'Reducing Burglary Initiative', which, brought 63 projects around the country to fruition, has noted a reduction in the number of burglaries.

Arrests In Gwent Burglary Sting
Gwent Police have arrested 13 people as part of an operation to tackle house burglaries. Out of those arrested, seven have been charged with dwelling burglary offences, whilst six remain on police bail, pending further inquiries.
