Helicopter Crash Kills Two
Two people have been killed in a Lancashire helicopter crash.
It is believed the aircraft crashed into the banks of an estuary.
Its pilot sent a mayday signal shortly after noon, as it approached Poulton-le-Fylde, near Blackpool.
According to police the wreckage was recovered 40 minutes later at Barnaby's Sands, on the periphery of Wyre estuary.
Rescue teams attended the scene, but both occupants of the aircraft had suffered fatal injuries.
Lancashire police said they have yet to establish the cause of the crash.
The Ministry of Defence confirmed the helicopter had been a civilian aircraft.
Barnaby's Sands is a nature reserve managed by the Lancashire Wildlife Trust.
It is well known for its extensive areas of ungrazed salt marsh.
