Ballymena Shooting

A shot was fired through the window of a house at Orkney Drive in Ballymena's Ballykeel 2 estate. It happened at about 1.50am this morning. No one was injured. A number of shots were fired at the same house at the end of September in an attack linked to a feud in the area. Just hours before Sunday's attack petrol bombs were thrown at a house and a car at nearby Francis Street. Police are not linking the attacks at this stage.

Brighton Bombing Recalled

Those who died in a horror bomb attack that targeted Margaret Thatcher are to be recalled today as a service is held to mark the 25th anniversary of the IRA bomb attack on Brighton's Grand Hotel. The blast on October 12, 1984, ripped through the Victorian hotel in the East Sussex resort during the Conservative Party conference, killing five people and seriously injuring 34. Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher was unharmed despite working on her conference speech inside the hotel at the time of the explosion just before 3am. Her Cabinet colleague, Lord (Norman) Tebbit was rescued from the rubble alongside his wife Margaret, who was left paralysed. Bomber Patrick Magee was given eight life sentences at the Old bailey in 1986 for the attack, with a recommendation to serve a minimum of 35 years. He has since been released from prison under the terms of the Good Friday Agreement.

Taxi Bomb Ordeal

A taxi driver has been left traumatised after masked men told him they had put a bomb in his car. The man was then ordered to drive the vehicle to Strabane's Courthouse, during the incident on Friday night. Four men - several of whom were armed with handguns - made the threat at approximately 11pm when the driver arrived for a job in the Townsend Street area. After raising the alarm, Army technical officers who examined the vehicle declared the device to be a hoax.

CS Spray Used In Trouble

Police said there was serious trouble as a 150-strong crowd attacked police in Armagh on Saturday night. Some 10 officers were hurt after the violence started at 2am on Friary Road outside the Armagh City Hotel where a police patrol was attacked. They called for back-up, but reinforcements were also targeted. Litter bins were used to smash the windows of police cars. Police used CS spray during the trouble. A 34-year-old man faces charges in relation to the incident. Another 21-year-old man has been released pending reports to the Public Prosecution Service.

Firm Targets Bottom Of US Market

Belfast company Haemoband Surgical has doubled its turnover in the last year and is now targeting the US market thanks to a range of support from Invest Northern Ireland. The medical device manufacturer's innovative Haemoband Multi-Ligator product, which delivers speedy and effective treatment of haemorrhoids, has already been successful in markets across the UK, the Republic of Ireland, mainland Europe and further afield. Now the device, developed with the help of R&D and technical support from Invest NI and the EU, has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This means the company is sanctioned to sell the Multi-Ligator to surgeons in the US, opening up the most lucrative medical market in the world. Invest NI offered Haemoband Surgical R&D support worth £85,000, part financed by the EU Building Sustainable Prosperity programme.
