CIOB to offer training in delay management
The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) has linked up with Pickavance Consulting to organise a two-day residential course on overcoming delay in construction contacts.
The CIOB point to delay and disruption, which are endemic in the construction industry, as the most common causes of cost escalation and dispute.
The course will provide those who carry out construction works, or may be involved in a dispute with tools necessary to identify inefficiencies, gauge extensions of time and prove causation in different situations.
Commenting on the SCL Delay Protocol construction barrister Tony Bingham described it as an ‘ideal tool with which to beat up the other party!’ and Solicitor Roderick O’Drisoll said the course was the "best he had ever attended on a specialized subject of this nature".
The training will review both benefits and drawbacks of the protocol, which has been a heavily debated and much talked about practice guide for the avoidance of delay-rated disputes.
The Masterclass will take place on May 23 to 24 at the Hanover International Conference Centre in Sundridge Park, Bromley, Kent.

The CIOB represents some 39,000 construction professionals in the UK and has members in over 90 countries worldwide.
