Girl Beaten In West Belfast

A 14-year-old girl has been beaten by a man in west Belfast.

The attacker punched the girl to the ground close to Dunville Park on the Falls Road.

Police said the girl has been walking along the road when she was stopped by the man. He then struck her several times, knocking the teenager to the ground.

The man made off when a passer-by intervened.

He is believed to have headed in the direction of Dunville Street.

Police said the attack happened sometime between 4.30pm and 5.45pm.

The attacker was described as 40 years of age and wearing a tan bomber jacket with similar coloured baseball cap, grey tracksuit bottoms and trainers.

A PSNI spokeswoman said the teen has been left traumatised by the ordeal.

Police have appealed for anyone in the area at the time to contact them.

SDLP West Belfast Councillor Tim Attwood has expressed his shock at the vicious assault.

Cllr Attwood said: "This was a horrific attack on young girl which has shocked the entire community. It is essential that any witnesses give information to the PSNI so this man is brought to justice."
