Bad weather closes in on search for fishing vessel
The search for Kilkeel fishing vessel the Tullaghmurray Lass, and the three members of the Greene family who were aboard her, may be disrupted by gales.
Although sea conditions were calm on Tuesday morning, search co-ordinators expected the continuing operation to be severely hampered by imminent gales.
A joint operation by naval vessels from both the UK and The Republic of Ireland was underway using specialised sonar equipment and it is understood the Irish vessel is preparing deploy divers in the search.
Families and fishermen in Kilkeel had called on the Royal Navy to join the search operation for the Tullaghmurray Lass, which has been missing for four days.
At its peak the search operation involved two helicopters and up to 25 boats from the Kilkeel fishing fleet which were quartering the area in a bid to find any trace of the missing vessel. However as hopes of finding the three alive evaporated over the weekend the Coastguard called off its rescue operation.
Eight-year-old Michael Greene, his 32-year-old father and 54-year-old grandfather, both also called Michael, were expected back in Kilkeel on Friday, but never returned from their expedition, which was to have been the last before the boat was decommissioned.
Three inspectors from the Marine Accident Investigation Branch in Southampton have also arrived in Kilkeel to investigate the loss of the fishing boat and have begun enquiries.
