Appeal To Parents Over Finaghy Trouble
Just days after a 10-year-old boy was arrested after an attack on police in the nationalist heartland of Ardoyne, a republican politician has appealed to parents to better monitor their children in south Belfast.
Balmoral Sinn Féin representative Vincent Parker has appealed to parents to be aware of the whereabouts of their children, in the wake of a second weekend of anti social incidents in the Finaghy Crossroads area.
"The crowds that gathered on both sides of Finaghy Crossroads were aged between 12 and 16.
"Friday night's disturbance was an escalation of the previous weekends trouble," he said.
"The situation was calmed by the early intervention and good work of the Finaghy Crossroads group, who have put in place early warning systems to help deal with anti social behaviour in the area," the SF man continued.
"I was on the ground for several hours on Friday night at the crossroads, engaging with the youths directly and encouraging them to disperse and worked with the PSNI to bring calm to the situation.
"Local residents have expressed their concern to me regarding the upcoming weekends," he said.
"As Vice Chair of South Belfast District Policing Partnership (DPP), I have been in contact with the PSNI District Inspector, to press them on how they plan to coordinate resources this weekend to avoid a repeat of these incidents.
"I will be raising the incidents at a private meeting of the DPP with Senior PSNI management in Belfast City Hall on Tuesday night," he revealed.
"I would also like to make a direct appeal to parents to be aware of the location of their children over the weekend.
"I will be working closely with Finaghy Crossroads group and the PSNI to help contain any potential incidents," he warned.
Last Sunday, police officers were investigating a report of stone-throwing in the Bray Court area, near Ardoyne, when stones were thrown at their vehicles.
The windows of a police Land Rover and saloon car were broken and a car belonging to a member of the public, which was parked at nearby Crumlin Road, was also damage and shortly afterwards a youth - who turned out to be just 10-years-old - was arrested.

Weekend car crashes in Counties Fermanagh and Down have claimed three lives. A two-car collision happened at an accident black spot near Kesh on Sunday afternoon and two people have died. Both were travelling in the same car - Ryan Maguire, 22, was driving and Rodney Wilson, 29, was one of two passengers.

Homes Targeted In Finaghy Burglaries
A spate of burglaries in the Finaghy area has prompted police to call for vigilance. Homes in Priory Park, Sicily Park and Locksley Parade have been broken into over the past week. PSNI has asked the public to be vigilant and report unfamiliar persons or vehicles by calling 101.

Appeal Issued Over Murder Of Anne O'Neill
