Welcome For Lough Neagh Funds

SDLP Environment spokesperson John Dallat MLA has welcomed the announcement by Environment Minister Edwin Poots that funding for the Lough Neagh and Lower Bann Advisory Committees will continue through financial year 2010-2011. "On this occasion the advice of the Environment Committee was accepted, so the excellent work done by the committees will continue. The development of the River Bann in the short and long term needs the support, advice and expertise of the advisory committees for many years, not least in implementation of the Water Framework Directive which deals with a comprehensive range of issues including water quality and pollution, navigation, bio-diversity and archaeological conservation," he said.

Register For Election Now

Mid-Ulster MLA Billy Armstrong has issued a reminder to people to check if they appear on the latest Electoral Register or not ahead of the imminent Westminster general election. The Ulster Unionist representative said: "With a general election looming it is important that every individual of voting age across Northern Ireland ensures that they appear on the Electoral Register. With there no longer being an annual canvass, it is imperative that individuals check the latest register to confirm if they are correctly registered. It is imperative that individuals do not wait until a few weeks before an election is called to register because you may be too late under the continuous registration process," he said.
