Gun Seized After Arrests
A gun has been seized and six men detained during a police operation against suspected dissident republicans. The men were arrested after police searched two cars in west Belfast at about 10pm on Tuesday. A police spokesman said a number of other items had also been seized and are being examined.
UVF Killings Probed
Detectives from the PSNI's Serious Crime Branch who have taken over an investigation from the Historical Enquiries Team into a series of murders and other crimes by the UVF in north Belfast have made a further arrest. The move follows earlier arrests made on Monday. The man was arrested in the Antrim area and was last night assisting police with their enquiries. See: Ballast Probe Sees Further Arrests
Stub It Out Plea
Stormont Minister Michael McGimpsey has urged smokers to kick the habit as he unveiled the success of an initiative designed to help smokers to break the chains of their addiction. The Minister used today – No Smoking Day – to reveal key successes of the Northern Ireland Tobacco Action Plan 2003-2008, which highlights the achievements in reducing the prevalence of smoking in the Province.
Car Thieves Knock Owner Down
A man has been struck by a car as he tried to stop thieves stealing it from his north Belfast home. It happened around 3.30 am on Monday when a gang burst into the property in Carr's Glen Park and took the keys to the vehicle. When the householder became aware of the break- in he tried to stop the robbers escaping and was hit by the car. Police said the victim in his 40s received medical treatment by paramedics at the scene for injuries to his arm and knee.
Yorkshire Man Faces Child Charges
A 31-year-old man from West Yorkshire has appeared in court in Belfast charged with grooming and sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl. Gareth Freeman from Regent Street in Mirfield is also charged with making indecent images of the child. The offences are alleged to have taken place in south Belfast in 2009. Mr Freeman was remanded in custody.
Centra Fined For Underage Cigs
A city centre shop has been fined £400 for selling cigarettes to a person under the legal age. LCR Retail, of Great Victoria Street, was also ordered to pay costs of £69 at Belfast Magistrates Court after Belfast City Council brought the prosecution following a test purchase exercise at the company’s Centra store at Donegall Square West on July 30, 2009.
Boiler Scheme Needed: DUP
East Belfast DUP MLA Lord Browne has welcomed the Assembly's unanimous support for a DUP motion, calling for the introduction of a Boiler Scrappage Scheme to Northern Ireland. "I believe the real success of a boiler scrappage scheme will lay in the improvements it brings to the quality of life for Northern Ireland's pensioners living on a fixed income who have been hit particularly hard by the increase in fuel prices over the past number of years, and most of the additional money they receive through the Winter fuel payments has been wasted because their boilers are old and inefficient.
Dungannon Appeal
Detectives in Dungannon are appealing for information about an armed robbery at a shop. Shortly after 10.30pm on Monday March 8, two men went into the shop at Ballynakilly Road, Coalisland, and demanded money. One appeared to be armed with a handgun an the men made off in a car they stole from the premises. Shortly after 11pm, police arrested two men at Gortgonis Road, Coalisland. They are assisting police with their enquiries and detectives want to hear from anyone who was in the vicinity of the shop or saw the men make off in the stolen black Hyundai Getz, or saw it being driven to Gortgonis Road, where it was abandoned. The number to call is 0845 600 8000. Alternatively, information can be given anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.

Police Officers Disciplined For Failing To Tell Doctor About Woman's Head Injuries
Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Two charged over M1 car chase
Two men are to appear before Belfast Magistrates Court today in connection with a high-speed car chase in which four police officers were hurt. The incident occurred at 2am on Sunday morning when police pursued a vehicle which had allegedly been stolen in Loughgall, Co Armagh. During the chase four police officers were hurt and two arrests made.

Investigation Launched After Heroin And Cash Seized In Belfast
Police have launched an investigation after discovering heroin and a sum of cash in Belfast city centre. Four wraps of the Class A drugs were found in bushes on Wednesday, 30 November. Police also seized a sum of cash. The PSNI are continuing with their enquiries.

Police Appeal After 'Shot Fired' In North Belfast
Police have launched an investigation after reports of a shot being fired in north Belfast. No-one is believed to have been injured in the incident in the Farringdon Court area on Thursday. Police are keen to establish what happened and are appealing to anyone with information to contact them.

Police Issue Appeal Over Attempted PSNI Murder
The PSNI has issued an appeal to the public regarding the attempted murder of an off-duty police officer and his family at their home in east Belfast on Sunday 30 December. Detectives from Serious Crime Branch want to speak to late night revellers who got taxis in Belfast city centre that weekend.
