Local company wins £2.5m technology contract
Country Antrim company, Leaf Technologies, has won a £2.5 million contract to supply electronic modules to Geneva-based CERN (The European Laboratory for Particle Physics).
Leaf Technologies will develop sophisticated circuit boards for the high precision controls of a particle accelerator known as the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Once completed, this huge underground device will have vast computing power capable of processing as much information as today’s entire telecommunications network.
Announcing the news, managing director of Leaf Technologies, Fred Sloan, said: “We are delighted to have secured this very exciting contract with such an internationally regarded research organisation. It’s a tremendous boost for the company as we are implementing a new growth strategy that focuses on the further development of our expertise in electronics.”
The contract was secured with help from Trade Partners UK, a government organisation that provides support services for UK companies trading overseas. (CL)

£1m buy-out secures 170 Mallusk jobs
Around 170 jobs appear to have been saved at Mallusk-based Leaf Technologies after a buy-out from one of its major shareholders. The company, which went into administration last month, has been saved by Cheshire-based firm, Sense-Sonic, who manufacture a device for the hard of hearing.
