US Envoy Backs Integrated Belfast
US President Barak Obama's special envoy to Ireland Declan Kelly has been today 'backing Belfast'.
He applauded Belfast City Council's determination to develop an integrated economic vision for the city during an address to political, business and community leaders at the City Hall.
Declan Kelly was guest speaker at a breakfast meeting hosted by Lord Mayor, Councillor Naomi Long, as part of her 'Belfast without barriers' theme which has run throughout her term in office.
He is pictured with Peter McNaney, Chief Executive of Belfast City Council (left) and Kamala Lakhdhir, US Consul (far right) and the Lord Mayor.
Sharing his views about the opportunities and challenges for a competitive Belfast, he said: "I applaud the determination of Belfast City Council's civic leaders to develop an integrated economic vision for the city.
"These efforts will capitalize on Belfast's genuine capacity to attract foreign direct investment and build on its social, political, and economic renewal.
"At this critical period in the development of the city, a collaborative approach will help make informed decisions on priorities, harness employability and skills, and capitalize on opportunities for global competitiveness," he said.
Today's breakfast meeting was the fourth and last in a series hosted by the Lord Mayor - and newly elected East Belfast MP - tying in with the theme of her term in office - Belfast without barriers.
