AOL To Create 50 Jobs In Dublin
Internet company AOL is to provide 50 new software engineering jobs at its Dublin development centre over the next two years.
The company also announced it is moving to new headquarters in Dublin city centre from its base at Citywest, where it has been for the past ten years.
Dublin is its development engine for Europe where 110 people are at present employed.
Managing director of AOL global operations Aengus McLean told RTÉ radio the jobs would be mainly for development engineers. He said there would be 23 immediate full-time vacancies, and 12 contract positions.
Mr McLean said AOL had noticed a pick-up in the technology sector in Ireland. He also said the company had secured a great deal on rents for its new headquarters in Dublin because of the downturn.
In recent days, the company has announced it is also looking for a partner for its search engine and reports are surfacing that this has led to a possible deal where AOL may be sold to Micorsoft and that the company's Chief Executive is also negotiating a deal with Google.
The search deal between the internet giant and AOL is coming to an end and Google is looking to renew the deal.
If Microsoft can acquire AOL, the software giant will be able to increase its search engine market, broaden its email service user base and expand its online content offerings and possibly expand its business yet further.
