Producer Tunes To Belfast Firm's Expansion
A leading NI-based independent TV production company has announced the appointment of an acclaimed producer to head-up its operation.
Brendan Hughes will be responsible for building on Tern TV's award winning factual output to date.
Mr Hughes will have a dual strategy to expand the local output base and to extend the network popular factual output for the BBC and Channel 4.
Hughes is a highly experienced programme maker who works across a range of factual genres from history to science, arts to music.
Amongst his credits are: Henry VIII's Lost Palaces (Channel 4), Blitz Street (Channel 4), The Diets That Time Forgot (Channel 4), BBC2's award-winning Thames Shipwrecks: A Race Against Time, five programmes in the award-winning series Time Team (Channel 4), PaleoWorld (The Discovery Channel US) and Twentieth Century Blues (BBC2).
Hughes also ran the production company, DBA Belfast for four years, where he worked on high-end factual network programming before moving to London.
In London Hughes held positions as Managing Director at Jeremy Isaacs Productions and was Senior Producer for Nations and Regions' BBC One Millennium Event, where he was responsible for managing all OB's throughout the UK, outside London.
Harry Bell, Creative Director, Tern Television said: "Brendan's appointment is the missing piece of the jigsaw puzzle for Tern and we're really looking forward to this new era. Brendan gives us a real edge due to his vast experience in high-end factual and his unrivalled track record at Channel 4.
"After making a name for himself in London this is Brendan's homecoming and we're delighted that he sees the potential we do in Belfast and that he has chosen Tern as his new home."
Brendan added: "Tern has a tremendous reputation for high-quality lifestyle formats and factual entertainment, with successes such as Spa of Embarrassing Illnesses, Nick Crane's Great British Journeys, Colin and Graham's Excellent Adventures and their ever-popular gardening output.
"Most recently, their BBC2/4 multiplatform series, The Beauty of Maps out of Tern NI was a big hit and I look forward to building this into a brand.
"This is an exciting time in Nations growth and I look forward to making my mark at one of the most pioneering and successful indies in the sector."
