Belfast software developer wins Specsavers 2001 award

A 23-year-old software developer from Belfast has been crowned the winner of the Look of 2001, an annual modelling competition organised by leading opticians Specsavers.

Alison Gallagher battled it out against 16 contestants, who were also in the frame for this accolade following semi finals across the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland and Holland.

The competition was held in the exclusive private members club, Century, in London’s Shaftesbury Avenue. Each finalist was treated to a glamorous makeover by top make-up consultants from Revlon; sassy glasses from Specsavers frame stylists; designer hair do’s by celebrity hair stylist Janette McMorrow and fabulous frocks from stylist to the stars Boo Hill.

Alison shone through with her combination of wit, charisma and ‘spectacular’ style, which impressed the judges. Specsavers founder Mary Perkins said: “This year the standard of finalists has been truly exceptional, however Alison really stood out from the crowd.”

Alison has won a two-week holiday for two to Mauritius with £300 spending money, £250 Revlon goodies, £150 eye care vouchers and an exclusive modelling assignment with Specsavers Opticians. (MB)
