Many Arrests In Gardaí Drugs Raids

A total of 45 people have been arrested in the past 48 hours in Gardaí a crackdown on the sale and supply of heroin and 'crack' cocaine in the Dublin region.

The operation, which involved Garda drug units from Kevin Street, Pearse Street and Store Street stations, resulted in 150 charges being brought, according to Gardaí this morning.

Speaking earlier today the new Assistant Garda Commissioner Michael Feehan said: "This latest operation to target drug suppliers across the Dublin region has seen local garda drug units supported by the Garda National Drug Unit ensure a co-coordinated and effective approach to protecting our communities, individuals and their families from the harm and pain caused by drug use."

The arrests follow a six-month covert operation in which gardaí and the Garda National Drug Unit have gathered evidence against those who they describe as 'significant targets', all of whom are expected to face multiple charges.

"By working with other agencies and utilising innovative approaches we will continue to play our part in maintaining a safe community for everyone," Mr Feehan added.

Twenty of those arrested are due before Dublin District Court later today.
