Little Festive Cheer In Rasharkin Attack
Police have arrested a 25-year-old man following sectarian trouble in Rasharkin on Saturday.
There was little sign of festive cheer when two men, aged 56 and 51, were injured after being assaulted by other men in the Sunnyside Drive area.
The older man received cuts to his face while the other was cut on the face and head during the incident.
Police have appealed for information about the incident, which they are treating as sectarian.
North Antrim Sinn Fein MLA Daithí McKay has condemned the incident in Rasharkin which he alleged saw a group of loyalists armed with a various make-shift weapons confront a number of Catholic teenagers.
"A number of men were asked to leave a cafe in the village where they were directing sectarian abuse at a number of teenagers.
"After the teenagers themselves left the cafe they were confronted by the same men who threatened them," he alleged.
"These men were intoxicated and represented a significant threat to members of the public on the Main Street in the village," he said, slamming the PSNI for their handling of the incident.
Speaking before this morning's news of an arrest, he raged: "It is an absolute disgrace that these loyalists who brought weapons onto the streets of Rasharkin last night have not been arrested."
