Enterprising Students Hold 'Crunch Meeting'
Entrepreneurial students at NI's South West College recently held a 'crunch' meeting with marketing experts at the snack food manufacturer, Tayto, as part of a scheme to develop their business skills.
The event was organised as part of the Advancing Enterprise project and designed to encourage students to become creative in generating new business ideas as they worked to produce a new product to complement the brand's existing range.
Teams of business students from the Dungannon, Enniskillen and Omagh campuses presented their business ideas to a panel of expert judges, headed up by Tayto's Marketing Manager, Nina Doyle, (pictured with some of the students involved).
Designed to inspire entrepreneurial thinking and enable students to gain valuable guidance from industry experts, the challenge is one of a series activities being held across the college through the Advancing Enterprise project, which also provides support to those who have already taken steps towards being their own boss.
In recognition of the students' creative work, the participants earned a special 'crunch' guest visit to Tayto Castle in Tandragee to learn more about how the iconic range of Northern Ireland crisps and snacks are made.

Northern Ireland students have outperformed their peers in England and Wales in both A-level and the new AS level exams. Figures released by the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) on Thursday August 16 show a record 48,000 grades have been issued to Northern Ireland students across all exam boards.

Rise In Number Of GCSE Students Achieving A*- C Grades
There has been a significant increase in the number of GCSE students achieving the A*- C grades. The proportion of entries awarded A* - C grades has risen by 0.7% this year to 78.7% Education Minister, John O'Dowd, congratulated the students and said they should be proud of all their hard work.

New £4.3m Grant To Boost Business Innovation
Economy Minister Conor Murphy has launched the Business Innovation Grant (BIG), a new £4.3 million initiative designed to stimulate innovation and enhance productivity among Northern Irish businesses. The scheme, developed by Invest Northern Ireland and delivered in partnership with Innovate NI, is open to micro-businesses, sole traders, and SMEs.

Queen's welcomes overseas students
More than 50 overseas students arrived in Belfast at the weekend to take part in a three-week International Summer School at Queen's University. Now in its fourth year, the Summer School programme, entitled 'Ireland: Northern Perspectives', runs from 19 July to 6 August, and is coordinated by the Institute of Irish Studies at Queen's.
