County Londonderry bakery announces jobs boost
A Northern Ireland bakery has announced a £1 million expansion at its Londonderry plant with the creation of 50 new jobs.
The investment over the next 18 months by the Genesis Breads in Magherafelt is a further indication of the local bakery’s success, the company has maintained, in the face of stiff competitive supermarket domination.
Genesis Breads of the World based in Magherafelt were also recently voted Independent Bread Business of the Year. The company also collected the industry's marketing award for the second time in two years, for their bread-themed Café Slice restaurant in Magherafelt.
Formerly known as McErlains, the company changed its name in 1997.
The investment announced on Tuesday October 9 will see Genesis expand its plant by 10,000 sq ft to cater for increased demand for the company’s products. Genesis currently sells its products to most of the north’s chain store multiples, as well as Dunnes and Superquinn in the Republic of Ireland. (AMcE)
