Balmoral Show Gets Underway
The first day of the Balmoral Show is underway at the King's Hall in Belfast - with dry weather boosting the many outdoor displays and events.
DUP Leader and First Minister in the outgoing Stormont Assembly, Peter Robinson, was this morning on his party's stand to lend his support as the annual agricultural and food event, now in its 143rd year, aimed to attract tens of thousands of visitors over the next three days.
It is in partnership with Ulster Bank and is Ireland's largest agricultural and food show with visitors spoiled for choice with livestock competitions as well as daily displays of cattle, sheep, poultry, pigs and goats and hundreds of trade stands in the show-grounds.
These will also offer visitors a wide range of products including organic foods, holidays, leisure products, agricultural machinery and equipment.
The new Show Stage located on the King's Hall balcony is to offer a full line up of events running each day including the Queen's University cheerleading squad, ballroom dance performances, hair & make up demonstrations, health checks, cupcake and cake decorating, children's story telling, Unislim demonstrations and Celtic Storm, a professionally trained Irish dance troupe who will put on breath-taking high impact performances.
Hair and makeup artist, Claire McEvoy will be demonstrating vintage hairstyles and up-dos for events and giving make up advice and tips.
On Friday, registration for the GOSH Best Dressed competition will take place from 11am.
Entrants will then have the chance to meet with the judges, enjoy complimentary champagne and strawberries and also get a sneak peek at their competition.
Katie Larmour will comperé the competition and announce the lucky winner who will walk away with a Topflight holiday and GOSH hamper.
