Northern Ireland footballers produce a draw in Denmark
Norwich City’s Philip Mulryne scored his third international goal to earn Northern Ireland a credible 1-1 draw against Denmark in Saturday’s World Cup qualifying game.
Mulryne's 73rd minute header levelled the score after Dennis Rommendahl's scored a third-minute goal following a misunderstanding in defence between goalkeeper Maik Taylor and centre-half Colin Murdock.
Northern Ireland could even have scored a further two goals in the final five minutes when David Healy twice broke clear of the home defence. However, the Danish defence blocked both his shots on goal.
Although Northern Ireland are out of the running, boss Sammy McIlroy heaped praise on his players, who had lost their last six games.
The Northern Ireland team will now face Iceland on Wednesday in a game where the Icelandic team must win if they hope to finish second in the group and a place in the place-offs for next year’s World Cup in Japan and Korea.
The Republic of Ireland, meanwhile, secured an historic 1-0 win over Holland at Lansdowne Road, which secures them at least second place in their World Cup group.
The odds of getting anything out of the game looked extremely slim for the Irish side after defender Gary Kelly was sent-off in the second half, however stout defending and a goal by Jason McAteer produced a win late in the game. (MB)

Northern Ireland's long unbeaten home run has ended at Windsor Park after being defeated by Croatia 3-0. Juventus striker Mario Mandžukić scored the first goal nine minutes into the game and Duje Čop secured the second goal on the 35th minute of the friendly game. Andrej Kramarić also scored with a 25-yard shot into the top corner.

Northern Ireland footballer Lee Hodson has praised his team-mates after they were defeated 2-0 by Germany in their 2018 World Cup Group C qualifier. Julian Draxler scored the first goal in the 13th minute and Sami Khedira scored four minutes later.

'More goals' declares NI's top striker
Record Northern Irish international goal scorer David Healy has said that he wants "more goals" to up the target for future players. The Preston North End striker scored two goals in a 3-0 friendly match against Trinidad and Tobago to take his tally for Northern Ireland to 14.
