Police Investigate Pipe Bomb

Police are appealing for witnesses after confirming that a device found in Derry last night was a viable pipe bomb.The object was found at a car wash on the Racecourse Road just before 10pm. Officers are appealing for information on three masked men who were seen travelling in a silver car in the area at the time.

Sinn Fein To Announce Aras Candiate

It is expected that Sinn Fein will name its candidate for the presidential election in the South of Ireland.It is understood that Northern Ireland’s Deputy First Minister, Martin McGuinness and former Stormont Minister Michelle Gildernew are among candidates.

Mayor Of Belfast Hails Good News On Peace Wall

Former Lord Mayor of Belfast Tom Ekin, who recently had a motion on addressing peace walls passed at Belfast City Council has welcomed the announcement that a new gate is being opened at a peace wall in the Alexandra Park area of North Belfast.

The Alliance Councillor said: "This is brilliant news and it demonstrates that strong progress that can be made as regards addressing peace walls.

"I want to praise the work of the community in the area in bringing about this change and this is a very significant day.

"I am very pleased that an Alliance Minister has helped to bring forward this progress on tackling division and this demonstrates vision and ambition on this extremely important issue. I also welcome the progress that is being made on addressing another interface barrier in the area too."

‘Supergrass’ Admits To Sex With Under Age Girls

Loyalist ‘supergrass’ has admitted to sleeping with under aged girls on three occasions. The 47-year-old witness Robert Stewart so agreed that he was “a right nasty piece of work”, but denied being “corrupt to the core”. Mr Stewart has also denied claims that he is a liar motivated by opportunity. Stewart was giving evidence at Belfast Crown Court against 14 men in a catalogue of UVF terrorist crime, including the murder of UDA leader Tommy English in 2000.

Calls for ‘peace wall’ for Belfast school
The Northern Ireland Council for Integrated Education has said that a 'peace wall' to prevent sectarian attacks close to a school in north Belfast is a "last resort". It is understood that the Northern Ireland Office is considering building a wall at Hazlewood Integrated Primary School in north Belfast.

Further talks needed on north Belfast peace wall dispute
Legal action has prevented work starting on a peace wall at a north Belfast flashpoint. The Governors of Holy Cross girl’s primary school in Ardoyne had intended to apply for leave to seek a judicial review of the First and Deputy’s First Minister’s decision to build a wall on a part of the Ardoyne Road.

Peace People Return To Belfast
A veteran of many 'peace' rallies in the 1970s - Mairead Corrigan Maguire - one of the original anti-NI Troubles 'Peace People', has addressed a large Belfast crowd to condemn the actions of the Israeli government in Gaza. She was speaking at the weekend when the City Hall demonstration was held against the Israeli attack on the Gaza area.
