Stewart Milne Group To Cut Jobs
One of Scotland's leading house-builders has just announced plans to cut 40 jobs.
According to the Stewart Milne Group, the posts would go in its timber systems division.
The firm employs 257 people across the UK, and jobs are set to go in Aberdeen, Glasgow and at the firm's base in Witney, Oxfordshire.
40 proposed redundancies, with a total of 66 posts at risk - 25 in Aberdeen, eight in Glasgow and 33 in Witney has been announced.
The company is blaming the recession and lower levels of operational activity due to a downturn in demand.
Stewart Milne Timber Systems managing director Alex Goodfellow that while they attempted to minimise the effects of recession staff, "required business levels cannot be maintained in the current economic climate."
He added: "The proposed redundancies are spread geographically across our locations in Witney, Oxfordshire, Aberdeen and Glasgow.
"The employees affected come from a combination of departments. Enhanced redundancy packages and a full Employee Assistance Programme is being provided to those affected."
He maintained that no other division within the Stewart Milne Group would be affected.
