Home of community worker targeted by paint bombers

The home of a Protestant community worker in the Ardoyne area of north Belfast has been attacked with paint-bombs.

Mark Coulter, who has been involved in the group trying to resolve the dispute at the Holy Cross Primary School, said he blamed republicans for the paint attack on Wednesday.

Children in the Ardoyne area were prevented from going to the primary school, which is situated in the loyalist Glenbryn estate, at the end of June this year when loyalists blocked their main route.

The school protests marked the start of intense rioting between Catholic and Protestant residents in the area.

Mr Coulter, who is a spokesman for the Concerned Residents of Upper Ardoyne, said it appeared to have been an orchestrated attack by republicans to ensure that the talks did not succeed.

North Belfast MP Nigel Dodds has called for security to be increased in the Ardoyne area following the attack. Mr Dodds, a member of the Democratic Unionist Party said: “This attack and others in the area shows the lengths to which the republican movement will go to heighten fears. It is deliberately intended to undermine the efforts of Mark Coulter and others like him.” (AMcE)
