Overnight gun and pipe bomb attacks

A number of people have escaped injury after a series of gun and pipe bomb attacks on their homes in County Antrim.

A ten-year-old boy escaped in jury after shots were fired into a house at Mounthill Drive in Cloughmills, County Antrim. He was asleep in the front bedroom of his home when two shots were fired through the window around 10pm on Monday August 20. The boy’s family who were also asleep at the time of the attack were unharmed. It is understood the family are unaware of the reason for the attack.

Later, two pipe bombs exploded outside two homes in Ballymena. The attacks at Inchcolm Avenue on the Ballykeel estate damaged the front door of one property and a window of the other around 12.30am on Tuesday morning.

Damage was also caused to a house in north Belfast when a paint bomb was thrown at a house in Hesketh Park in Ardoyne, north Belfast. The window was broken and a paint bomb thrown into the living room. It damaged the sofa and wooden floor. The attack happened between midnight and 7am on Tuesday morning. (AMcE)

Houses damaged in separate petrol bomb attacks
Two houses have been attacked in separate petrol bomb attacks in Belfast and Downpatrick. In north Belfast, a device was thrown through a glass pane in the front door of a house on the Crumlin Road at around 11pm last night. In Downpatrick, a house in the Mount Crescent area suffered scorch damage in the early hours of Friday morning.

Church buildings damaged in attacks
Two church buildings have been damaged in separate overnight attacks. In the first attack windows were smashed at the home of a Church of Ireland Rector in Glenavy, County Antrim around midnight last night. A gang of youths throwing stones and other missiles attacked the church rectory and broke the windscreen of a car that was sitting outside.

Flats damaged in overnight pipe bomb attacks
A number of flats have been damaged in overnight pipe bomb attacks in Co Antrim. In the first incident devices were thrown at the front doors of two flats in Rathcoole Drive, Newtownabbey just after 10pm. A short time later another device exploded at a ground floor flat in Carnbrook Drive, Antrim, causing damage to a bedroom.

Derry's Fleadh Bid Refused
Dissident republican violence in Londonderry last week has resulted in the city losing all hopes of staging the first all –Ireland fleadh. Last week two bomb attacks shook the city. Police in Derry have claimed dissident republicans are responsible. No one was injured.
