Seminars For Business
The NI Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster, has launched a series of seminars which Invest Northern Ireland is providing for local businesses as part of its Boosting Business initiative. The “Focus on Finance” series will be held in six locations across Northern Ireland and will provide advice and guidance on cashflow planning and management, business planning and cost control, and raising finance. They will appeal to NI businesses wishing to address finance issues, especially smaller businesses and those who do not regularly deal with Invest NI. "We know that for many of our smaller local businesses, the greatest challenge they currently face is how to manage their finance and cashflow," adding that each of the regional half-day seminars will consists of three interactive workshops, following which attendees will be how they can apply for an independent financial appraisal which may lead to up to four days support to put their business on a better financial footing and help them through the current downturn.
Fined For Public Drinking
A man has been fined a total of £180 after being detected drinking alcohol in public on nine separate occasions. Brian Gardner, with an address at Divis Street in Belfast, was caught nine times between 15 June and 24 July 2011 at a number of city centre locations including Royal Avenue, Berry Street, Fountain Street, Fountain Lane and College Avenue. Also fined for on-street drinking was Philomena Theresa Maguire from Gracehill Court in north Belfast. She was fined a total of £70 after being detected drinking alcohol on two separate occasions; at Castle Street on July 3, 2011 and at King Street on July 7, 2011. She was also ordered to pay costs of £69. Paul Mann, from Lenadoon Avenue in west Belfast, was fined £20 and ordered to pay costs of £66 after he was detected drinking alcohol at Stewartstown Road on July 2, 2011. Patrick McCann, from Creeslough Park, also in west Belfast, was fined £20 and ordered to pay costs of £66 after he was detected drinking alcohol at Horn Drive on July 16, 2011. Francis Robinson, from Lady Street in west Belfast, was fined £75 and ordered to pay costs of £66 after he was detected drinking alcohol at Cullingtree Avenue on July 22, 2011. Lawrence James Magee, from Tamery Pass in south Belfast, was fined £40 and ordered to pay costs of £66 after he was detected drinking alcohol at Jocelyn Street on July 30, 2011. Liam Lagan, from Friendly Row in south Belfast, was fined £20 and ordered to pay costs of £66 after he was detected drinking alcohol in Botanic Gardens on July 8, 2011.
Water Cleared
The Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy welcomed the Drinking Water Quality Report 2010, published by the Drinking Water Inspectorate. The report found that there continues to be an improvement in overall compliance with samples taken from water treatment works, service reservoirs and consumers’ taps. The high levels reported in 2009 of 99.79% have further improved this reporting year with a new high level of compliance of 99.86% for all tests meeting the standard in 2010. "The Drinking Water Inspectorate’s latest report confirms the high quality of our public drinking water supply and continuing improvement in meeting regulatory standards. The investment has led to upgrades of water treatment facilities across Northern Ireland. We need to maintain investment to keep standards high and make further improvements in our infrastructure," he said.

Street Drinkers Pay The Cost
Five people have been fined at Belfast Magistrates Court for drinking alcohol in public. Tyrone McCann, from Richmond Avenue in Newtownabbey, was fined £50 and ordered to pay costs of £66 after he was detected drinking alcohol at Suffolk Road in west Belfast on January 16.

Dog Attack Man Faces Court Fine
A 'Staffie' dog attack has landed a Belfast man in court. He was fined £200 and ordered to pay £300 compensation after his dog attacked and injured a man last December. Robert Gary Bradshaw, from Orkney Street in west Belfast, was convicted of the offence at Belfast Magistrates Court today and was also ordered to pay costs of £69.
