Alu-Fix Enters Administration

Belfast based aluminium installation company, Alu-Fix has entered into administration with the loss of around 40 jobs. Stephen Cave and Paul Rooney from PricewaterhouseCoopers have been assigned as joint administrative receivers by the secured lender, which is believed to be Ulster Bank. Mr Cave said: “It appears that the company’s funding position has deteriorated markedly over recent weeks, culminating in the company lacking sufficient cashflow to continue trading and this led to our appointment. "Our immediate objective is to determine the precise financial position and the current status on live contracts. Unfortunately we have had no option but to make the remaining 20 permanent staff in Belfast and 20 permanent staff on GB sites redundant, with immediate effect."

Accolade For Energy Efficient System

An Armagh refrigeration company has won a prestigious national award for its energy-saving refrigeration solution at a meat processing plant. Shilliday Refrigeration picked up the prize for 'Industrial and Commercial Project of the Year' at the RAC Cooling Industry Awards night at the London Hilton, where 600 professionals in the refrigeration and air conditioning industry gathered to reward the finest products, projects and performance the sector has to offer. Entries from nearly every major name in refrigeration and air conditioning were judged, and with the focus very much on energy-efficient solutions, Shilliday's simple, but cost-effective, idea for a new centralized refrigeration system at Loughgall company Hewitt Meats was the one which came out top in its category.

The NI Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy has set out Roads Service’s progress on investment totalling £12.5 million for network development and maintenance schemes in the Londonderry area this year. The Minister said: "I am pleased to confirm that work on the A6 Londonderry to Dungiven dual carriageway scheme is progressing well and that my Department intends to publish an Environmental Statement, draft Direction Order and draft Vesting Order in early December 2011. Public exhibitions on the proposed scheme will be held in mid-January 2012. Work is also progressing on the development of the A5 dual carriageway from Newbuildings to Aughnacloy. The Department is currently awaiting the Inspector’s Report into the Public Inquiry held in July this year," he added.

Time Running Out For Murder Probe Gardaí

The police in Cork have only a few more days in which to question three men over the murder of a suspected drug dealer in Cork in August. Father of two Darren Falsey (36) was shot dead when he answered a knock at the front door of his home in Ashbourne Court, Ferney Road, Carrigaline, on August 3rd. The men have been arrested in recent days in connection with his murder. They are all being held under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act (2007). Under this legislation, a chief superintendent can ask the courts to allow them to be detained for questioning for up to seven days. After that, a decision has to be made to either charge them or release them without charge.
