New independent Social Security referee appointed
The Social Development Minister Maurice Morrow has appointed a new Independent Case Examiner.
Ms Jodi Berg has replaced Anne Parker, the first Independent Case Examiner who filled the post for the last 16 months.
The Independent Case Examiner acts as an independent referee for customers of the Social Security Agency and the Northern Ireland Child Support Agency who feel that they have been treated unfairly and are unhappy with the way either Agency has responded to a complaint.
Speaking following the announcement the Minister said: “The Social Security Agency and the Child Support Agency deal with many thousands of people in Northern Ireland and the vast majority of those people are satisfied with that service.
“However as with most organisations that deal with so many customers there will be times when people are unhappy with the way they are treated. Ms Berg’s job is to help those people by providing an option for customers who want their complaints investigated by some one who is totally independent.
“It also provides the opportunity for both Agencies to modernise their administrative procedures and so improve their customer services.”
The Minister concluded: “I would also like to pay tribute to the work of Anne Parker who retired from the post of Independent Case Examiner at the beginning of the Summer”. (AMcE)
