Foreign bid for Belfast International Airport’s parent

French construction firm Vinci are believed to have made an offer for leading airport operator TBI.

If the move is successful it will mean that a foreign company will own Belfast International Airport, which is a part of the TBI group, for the first time.

TBI, which is a public quoted company with a listing on the London Stock Exchange, have numerous other interests and operations around the world including Australia, Bolivia, Canada, Costa Rica, England, Sweden, the USA and Wales.

While Vinci does not have a presence in the UK airport sector they are believed to have acquired a 14.9 per cent stake in TBI. They are also considering making a cash offer for all of TBI at around 90 pence per share, valuing the company at just over £500 million.

Vinci currently employs about 7,000 people in the UK on a range of projects including a contract to maintain bridges over the River Severn. (MB)

Da Vinci Drawings On Show In Belfast
Ten drawings by Leonardo Da Vinci will go on show tomorrow in Northern Ireland. National Museums Northern Ireland said the Renaissance master's works had been selected to show the "extraordinary scope" of his interests, from engineering to botany to mapmaking. It is the first time these drawings will go on display in Northern Ireland.
