Eastwood 'Apprenticeship' Revealed In Belfast

The University of Ulster is about to feature a special event, on a local man's experiences of the popular TV show, The Apprentice. Entitled, 'Where It All Began - Jim Eastwood Talks About 'the Apprentice' it is being held on 29th November from 6.30pm to 10pm at the Conor Lecture Theatre, on the Belfast campus. Mr Eastwood, (pictured) a University of Ulster graduate - and a finalist in the last series - will talk about his experiences on the show and what he has been doing since.

McDonald's Goes For Gold

Staff at the fast food firm McDonald's from across Northern Ireland are converging at the Sprucefield restaurant in Lisburn this weekend to compete for a chance to work at the London 2012 Olympics and serve athletes, media and spectators from across the globe. Over 120 workers from the 26 restaurants across Northern Ireland will gather to take part in the event, designed to select McDonald's best employees to work at the four Olympic Park restaurants. Alongside serving at the restaurants during the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the successful crew will also get the much sought after chance to sample some of the sporting action firsthand and experience the buzz and excitement of the Olympic Park. experience at the Olympic Park.

'Slimmer' City Sought

Belfast is hoping to reduce its 'wasteline' (sic) as organisations across the city take part in European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR), running until 27 November). The number of organisations taking part has more than doubled since last year with 85 now signed up to Belfast City Council's pledge to take action on waste, and more than 20 European countries are taking part. A wide range of organisations and businesses from across the city are getting involved, from churches to charity shops, butchers to bars, and schools to solicitors. Councillor Pat McCarthy, Chairman of the Health and Environmental Services Committee, said: "We're delighted that so many organisations have signed up for this year's EWWR," he said.

SDLP MLA Calls For L'Derry Suicide Prevention Taskforce
SDLP MLA Mark H Durkan has written to the Department of Health calling for the establishment of a Suicide Prevention Taskforce in L'Derry. Mr Durkan said that there is a lot of knowledge and goodwill in the city across many sectors, including charities, and "it should be harnessed and resourced to make a real difference and save lives".

PM Condemns Loyalist Flag Violence
David Cameron has condemned the loyalists and unionists responsible for acts of violence across Northern Ireland in the wake of the union flag vote at Belfast City Hall. He was speaking at Prime Minister’s question time in the Commons. He said: "In no way are these people being loyal or standing up for Britishness.

Book of Condolence opened for Beslan victims
A Book of Condolence has been opened at Belfast City Hall for victims of the Beslan massacre. The Lord Mayor of Belfast Councillor Tom Ekin described last week's events in which around 330 people were killed at a local school in the Russian town of Beslan as "brutal savagery".
