Sligo Family Death Probe Underway

An investigation has been launched into the deaths of three people at a house at Morgara, Gurteen, County Sligo on Sunday.

Gardaí at Ballymote Garda Station said they are investigating the deaths of three members of a family after a relative raised the alarm on Sunday night.

Gardai said they were called to the house at 9.40pm after the discovery of the bodies of a 52-year-old man and his two children - a girl believed to be aged 12 and a boy believed to be aged 9. A local doctor pronounced all three dead at the scene shortly before 11pm.

The Garda Technical Bureau is preserving the scene pending a full technical examination. The services of the State Pathologist have also been requested.

It is not yet known how they died, but a gas leak is being investigated, as carbon monoxide poisoning is suspected.

There was no one else in the house at the time.

It is understood the children's mother was not at the house because she was ill in hospital.
