More Job Losses Feared As Sit-In Continues
It has been reported that further job losses at a foam manufacturer could emerge due to an on-going sit-in by former employees in Cork.
Vita Cortex currently employs 28 people in Northern Ireland’s capital and a further 32 people at locations in Athlone and Cork.
This news follows the closure of a plant on the Kinsdale Road in Cork on December 16.
Thirty-two employees have been staging a sit in at the company since the closure and the announcement that they would not receive redundancy payments.
In a statement the company said "ongoing negative publicity" of the sit-in was undermining management's efforts to "maintain the existing levels of business and the employment needed to service it, which is heading to further potential job losses in the very near future".

Threatened strike action by thousands of council workers in Northern Ireland has been averted, trade unions have said. Town hall employees like clerks and grave diggers have agreed a minimum hourly rate of £6 an hour after shop stewards decided not to proceed with industrial action. The 2.47% rise will be backdated to April.

Seven hundred and sixty people are to lose their jobs at Larne-based engineering firm FG Wilson. The number of job cuts announced today will come as a huge blow to Northern Ireland, already suffering from rising unemployment as revealed yesterday, as FG Wilson currently has more than 3,000 employees on its books.
