Ulster Builds Peace Through Sport

The University of Ulster’s Sports Academy will deliver a European funded project that will challenge sectarian and racist attitudes in six council areas, it has been announced.The North East PEACE III Sports for Peace Building Project, was officially launched yesterday by Olympian Dame Mary Peters at Coleraine Borough Council’s headquarters.The initiative aims to develop a shared future using sport as a medium to improve trust and cultural understanding.

Dame Mary Peters said: "Since winning my medal in 1972 I have been in the privileged position of supporting young people achieve their best in sport.There are so many young people purposely involved in sport but there could always be more. Projects such as this embrace everyone, I strongly back the six Councils who have the wisdom to believe in this initiative."

New Members Appointed To Belfast Harbour Commissioners

Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy, today announced the appointment and reappointment of Belfast Harbour Commissioners. The Minister announced six new appointment and three re-appointments to the Belfast Harbour Commissioners. The appointments are for a four year period commencing on 01 February 2012.

Visit By The Lord Mayor Of City Of London To Invest NI Headquarters

Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman David Wootton met Alastair Hamilton, CEO Invest Northern Ireland during a visit to Belfast as part of his programme of regional visits.

Whilst in Northern Ireland, Alderman Wootton met with representatives of academia, industry and government to discuss the development of industry-led skills and research. He was also briefed about the unique contribution of Northern Ireland to the UK financial services offering and heard views on the financial services environment.
