Illustrator's Exhibition Comes To Belfast

An exciting illustration exhibition is coming to Belfast – which will showcase some of the best loved children’s book characters.

Curated by childrenʼs laureate and author of The Gruffalo, Julia Donaldson ʻThe Illustrators Exhibitionʼ, will runs from 21 February to 18 March at Belfast’s at the Crescent Arts Centre.

It will offers the opportunity to see original artwork by the worldʼs leading childrenʼs illustrators who feature in Juliaʼs books, as well as finished illustrations, sketches, ideas and a unique display of illustrated envelopes by Axel Scheffler.

Fans of Julia’s characters from ‘The Gruffalo’, ‘The Snail and the Whale’ and ‘Zog’ will certainly enjoy this month-long celebration of children’s characters which includes screenings of ‘The Gruffalo’ and ‘The Gruffalo’s Child’ films, Drama and Storytelling workshops and even a ‘Gruffalo Disco’ for children.

Ashers Bakery To Appeal Discrimination Ruling
A Christian-run bakery who lost a discrimination case is to appeal the judges decision. Ashers Bakery was ordered to pay £500 for refusing to make a cake with a slogan supporting gay marriage. The bakery was asked by Gareth Lee to make a cake with Sesame Street characters Bert and Ernie with a motto in support of gay marriage.

James Cameron Pays Tribute To Titanic Builders
James Cameron has paid tribute to the Belfast designers and builders of the Titanic, saying he "firmly believes" they worked in the engine rooms to keep the ship afloat for as long as possible. The director of the 1997 film Titanic, starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio, was speaking at the Titanic Belfast visitor centre.

Family Fun Set For St George's Market
St George's Market is to host a family fun weekend on Saturday February 23rd and Sunday February 24th. There will be free face painting for all children – and adults too – and stilt walkers from the Premiere Circus will be mingling with customers throughout both days.
