McIlroy Tries For Top Spot
Northern Irish golfer Rory McIlroy is close to the top spot: if he wins this weekend’s WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship he will become golf’s world number one.
This news comes after the current world number one crashed out of the competition after being defeated by veteran Ernie Els.
His loss means that McIlroy or Lee Westwood will bag the world number one title depending on who wins the first of the season’s world championships on Sunday.
McIlroy, who plays Denmark's Anders Hansen in the last 32 on Thursday, is the only Northern Ireland player left in the tournament following defeats to Graeme McDowell and Darren Clarke.
