Number Of 'At Risk' Children Rises In NI
The number of children on the child protection register has significantly risen in the last five years according to new research.
Researchers at Queens University in Belfast revealed the number of children in Northern Ireland on the child protection register has risen sharply since 2006.
The study revealed that the register has increased from 1,639 to 2,401 between 2006 and 2011.
The research team also found that in the same period, England experienced a rise of 60%, the figure in Wales increased by 33% and 19% in Scotland.
These statistics have been released ahead of an international child protection conference organised by the British Association for the Study and Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (BASPCAN), which is being held at Queen's this week.

Decrease In Number Of Children On Protection Register
Over 2,000 children in Northern Ireland are on the Child Protection Register, according to new figures from the Department of Health. A total of 2,130 children listed on the register at the end of March - a 3% decrease on the previous quarter.
