Calls For Translink Not To Drift Into Deficit
Alliance Regional Development spokesperson Stewart Dickson MLA has called on the Department for Regional Development to not let Translink drift into deficit.
Translink is expected to make a £2 million profit this year but a £22 million deficit over the two years after that.
Stewart Dickson MLA said: "We must not let Translink drift into a situation where it is making such a large amount of deficit. We must take action now and not down the line when this problem has already happened.
"We need to grow our public transport sector and get people out of cars, for both the environment and also to reduce congestion. At a time when petrol prices are increasing, we need to ensure that public transport is still a viable alternative and pushing prices up to meet this deficit will not help.
"I am calling on the Department for Regional Development to work with my Assembly Committee to find a solution to this problem."
